Daisy's Journey

A whole year?! how has that even happened... We've just celebrated Daisy's 1st birthday and she had such a fab day! she was surround by all her family and friends and I don't actually think she stopped laughing and smiling all day. She was golden, just like her big sister. Its crazy to think this time last year we had no clue what was just around the corner and what we was going to find out about our beautiful little girl.  But we've learnt about hearing loss, more than you can ever imagine. We've learnt about hearing aids and cochlear implants. The pros and cons about everything. We feel like we made the best choice for Daisy. Some people may think different, some think like we do. At the end of the day its not permanent decision, when Daisy gets older she can choose if to wear them or not. We've just been very lucky to be able to give her best start in life if she does keep up with the cochlear's.    Talking about sound and Coc...

Daisy had her 3rd mapping on the 16th Jan over at Nottingham Ropewalk house. We was very nervous about what was going to happen as the last time before they stopped she started eye flickering. This time around she was eye flickering and even trying to turn her head to where the sound was coming from. Audiology have said she is doing brilliantly. She was that laid about again they turned up extra. She will be hearing everything in no time at this rate! since the 3rd mapping she has been pulling them off constantly! NIGHTMARE!!! we don't know if its to loud for her or its her new thing to just pull them off to annoy us. either way we turned her down to level 2 from 1 just incase and will put her back up to 1 soon. Still no sign of crawling just yet but she is trying. bless her. not ready for 2 little humans running around the place yet! She's finding her feet to walk too so we think once she finds her balance she'll be walking before crawling. So its just before Christmas and we have our Second turn up "mapping". Were all wired up to the computer and ready to do. In our minds hoping for some reaction this time. She playing away with her toys while their turning her up bit by bit. Mark has this speaker which place different sounds and when I say there loud. there LOUD! They got to Level 3 and they thought she was reacting to the beeping sounds and she was nearly turning her head to the light up animals but she didn't quite get that where the sound was, was an animal. She will get it but even that is a massive improvement. Because she was so calm and relaxed, before they sent us of home, they turned her up 4 levels! so like before 4 being low and 1 being high, when they put her on the highest on out the 4 levels, she started to blink to some sounds! So its been one week since being switched on and Daisy has done really well. She's kept the cochlear's on all day, from the moment she wakes up then taking them off for her bath, bottle and bed. It must get annoying when you have a headband on your head all day! Donna came round ( our teacher of the deaf ) and she is very happy with the progress Daisy is doing. She's turning her head to some bangs. She beams a massive smile once her Cochlear's on her. She chatting more and her Development is coming on really well. She's learnt how to walk by holding onto our hands. So very nearly crawling.. she's so close!! Were very happy with our little super star! She's not bothered at all. I must admit she's a lot more interested in things around her now and the TV program BING she's addicted to. We need to start doing the basic sounds around her that will help her develop spoken English language. If she can't do them all then she wont be able to speak...

OH MY!! were finally here!!! its activation day. The day is here. The day our little Daisy starts wearing her cochlear's for the first time, forever. Were all very nervous and excited. Wondering what's going to happen. I have butterflies. not getting my hopes up on a reaction at all. Going in open minded like I have with every appointment. 1pm we've been called into the room. Walking down the hall way looking down at Daisy in the pushchair thinking my sweet baby girl. This is going to be a life changing thing. Once we got into the room we put Daisy down into the highchair and we began. They wired her cochlear's up to the computer and just by a click sounds started going into her little brain. They turned on all electrodes and turned her up by 3 levels. level 3 being low then level 1 being the highest.  but because Daisy didn't react to one little bit of sound we left her on level 1. Many reasons.. Its either to low for her to hear just yet. Or Daisy just isn't ...

Daisy has done so well since her operation. She's healed nicely and her hair pretty much covers the scar anyway. Only 4 more days to go until activation day, the big switch on! The day we have all been waiting for is right around the corner. It honestly feels like there is light finally at the end of the tunnel. 1pm on the 4th December our Daughter will hear for the first time in her life. This Is a very special moment for me and brad, as this is all we have wished for since we found out. I can't wait to record it all and just watch it back in many years to come and one day show Daisy. We have decided to take Amelia with us to the activation. We think it will be special for her to be there. She understands that Daisy has poorly ears and has done since day one. Amelia thinks Daisy had new ears when she had her operation, and also thought she could hear, which then we had to explain to her what happens next in little words so that a 2...

Daisy is doing so well! I don’t know what I was expecting but I didn’t expect her to bounce  back so quickly after a operation like that.  The first weeks she was very groggy and was all mummy but I must admit she did really well considering it was her 3rd night back at the new Home after her operation.  Every little touch to her head would hurt her, but for some reason she’s still try and crawl and fail and hit her head and do it again and again and again.  Daisy had 2 plasters that was covering her stitches, one was half off and daisy thought it would be a good idea to yank it off! I couldn’t believe she did it and didn’t even cry!  The second plaster only came off 2 days ago. Thankfully she didn’t pull this one off, bathing it in water and gentle taking it off was the trick.  The scars are so neat and tidy. It’s incredible what doctors can do these days.  I do try and get a picture of her scars but her hair covers as they hardl...
