Nottingham
Today we finally went to Nottingham to start the process of Cochlear implants!
I'm so pleased that we are finally on the ball, just hoping Daisy ticks all the boxes so that we can go ahead for the operation.
So today we met Mr Daft. He spoke us through pretty much everything we needed to know about the implant programme.
He started of by telling us about the cochlear in the ear, (which is the size of a pea). He then went onto talking about the cochlear and how it works, which we already knew pretty much everything that we needed to know, thanks to the teacher of the deaf.
The one thing I didn't want to know was how they do it and what they do! I really didn't want to know. But thanks to Mr Daft he blarted it all out and I just sat there trying not to listen to him. I just proper zones out! I could see my mum and Bradley just looking at me, maybe they thought I was going to cry? because I was pretty close too!
We are now on a Assessment programme which we are on for a while until the very end.

We are now on a Assessment programme which we are on for a while until the very end.
- Children's assessment - ENT meeting.
- Hearing assessment - Our first visit to Cannock hospital is for them to find out more about Daisy and plan the pathway she will go down. This is a meeting with the audiology to consider Daisy's hearing levels and use of hearing aids.
- Speech and language therapy outreach assessment - An assigned speech and language therapist will see Daisy at ropewalk house in Nottingham and this assessment contributes to the teams decisions on whether a cochlear implant is likely to benefit Daisy. This also provides a baseline for monitoring Daisy's progress after implantation.
- Teacher of the deaf - We will be assigned to another teacher of the deaf through Nottingham, with also our Staffordshire teacher of the deaf.
- Medical assessment - This will be a MRI scan on Daisy's Ears to check inside her inner ear and so the surgeons know where to go in when they operate.
- Multi-disciplinary assessment clinic - We will finally meet the surgeon, and he will give us the results to any MRI scan that Daisy has had and then to decide on what happens next.
- Then its implantation day!!
Very nervous and excited! I need to keep an open mind has Daisy could fail her assessment and not be able to benefit from a cochlear. But positive thinking it is for me right now! I just hope our sweet little Daisy can one day can hear us.
